Robert Kemp appears in the area of Truro and Wellfleet, on the outer edge of Cape Cod, just prior to the Revolutionary War. It is stated in several sources that Robert migrated north from Maryland, and as such, would probably be related to the Quaker Kemp's of Maryland. However, no firm evidence has yet been found to substantiate this.
Robert was a mariner by trade, and most all of his first and second generation descendents also earned their trade from the sea.
