Best Bets will return in September 2009. Please enjoy last year's edition below.
Okay football fans, I know the 2007 edition of Best Bets barely achieved a .500 record.
In fact, the entire schedule of KCFR lined games had a better record ATS, go figure.
This season finds a new rule in place: Any team which is a BB pick then loses shall be barred
from being a BB pick the next week, no matter what the numbers say.
Also, I have whittled down the number of BB picks, from 12 or more down to about 3 or 4
each week. I would like to concentrate on the best of the best, and avoid repeating teams.
In the past, any line that was 9 or more points different from KCFR was used as a Best Bet.
We shall be a little more discerning this season.
Also, check out the Conference Page for KCFR's prediction performance for each team.
As always, KCFR is not responsible for any information or misinformation which results in
monetary losses or personal embarrassment, so there.
Best Bets final record: 29-21-2 ATS
Week One results:
FIU @ Kansas(-36.5): pick KU = LOST. J-hawks in sleepwalk instead of cakewalk.
Ohio @ Wyoming(-10): pick UW = LOST. Cowpokes just win in defensive struggle.
UTEP @ Buffalo(-3): pick UB = WON. Look for Bulls to further impress this year.
WKU @ Indiana(-21): pick WKU = WON. Toppers beat spread by 3, thank you.
Week Two results:
Ohio U @ Ohio State(-34): pick OSU = LOST. You were smart to go with Ohio U weren't you?
Miami @ Florida(-21): pick UF = WON. Gators are my No.1, and not just because were only BB win.
Ole Miss @ Wake Forest(-7.5): pick WF = LOST. Again right team wins but barely. Give Ole Miss credit.
UAB @ Fla Atlantic(-13.5): pick FAU = WON. Whew, another BB win under the wire thanks to hapless Blazers.
Week Three results:
Stanford @ TCU(-12.5): pick TCU = WON. Frogs are 2-0 ATS so far. Next victim SMU?
SMU @ Texas Tech(-36): pick Tech = PUSH. Did anyone find a 35.5 line? I say Tech is sandbagging.
UCLA @ BYU(-8.5): pick BYU = WON. KCFR told ya it wouldn't be close, but geez!
Nevada @ Missouri(-26): pick UNR = LOST. Looking like last season's late No. 1 ranking no fluke for Mizzou.
Week Four results:
Notre Dame @ Michigan St(-8.5): pick MSU = WON. Spartans won by 16 showing good 4th qtr mettle.
Arizona(-2.5) @ UCLA: pick Zona = WON. Do you dare bet against the Bruins 3rd game in a row? YESSSS!
So Florida(-30) @ Fla Int'l: pick USF = LOST. USF close win again, team hurting & KCFR over-rated.
New Mexico @ Tulsa(-10.5): pick NM = LOST. Dang, I almost had Florida in this spot. Can't figure Lobos.
Week Five results:
Illinois @ Penn St(-14): pick PSU = PUSH! Great game but couldn't they get the ball to Williams one more time?
UAB @ South Carolina(-24): pick SC = LOST. From now on we're not even giving Gamecocks the time of day.
USC(-25) @ Oregon State. I almost posted this one as KCFR had USC by 12, and actually had OSU
to win SU in 2006, but had underrated USC in their two games this year. Sheesh.
Week Six results: SWEEP!
Hawaii @ Fresno St(-22): pick Hawaii = WIN. KCFR said close game & VOILA! UH wins in OT.
Texas A&M @ Okla St(-24): pick OSU = WIN. 24 pts a lot to give but confident Cowboys cover!
Penn St(-12.5) @ Purdue: pick PSU = WIN. Lions cover, they barely cover, the lion sleeps tonite...
San Diego St @ TCU(-24.5): pick TCU = WIN. Frogs leap past Aztecs with room to spare.
Cincinnati(-3.5) @ Marshall: pick UC = WIN. Start of a good weekend thanks to Bearkats.
Week Seven results: 4-1, yessssss
La-Monroe @ Arkansas St(-11.5): pick ASU = LOST. Not a Smart play. Missed it by THAT much.
Louisiana Tech @ Hawaii(-7.5): pick UH = WON. KCFR pick was 11, UH won by 10, pretty good eh?
Wash St @ Oregon St(-30): pick OSU = WON. Pick was Beavs by 53, this is getting scary.
Ball St(-16.5) @ Western Ky: pick Ball = WON. BSU barely covers, we'll take it every time.
Penn St(-5) @ Wisconsin: pick PSU = WON. Lions more ferocious now, look out Wolverines!
Week Eight results: 3-3
Michigan @ Penn St(-23.5): pick PSU = WON. Lions keep on rolling those sevens.
Oregon St(-14) @ Washington: pick OSU = WON. Why don't the Beavers play in Lion Stadium?
Houston(-13) @ SMU: pick UH = LOST. Cougars are ousted from Best Bets lair for '08.
Wake Forest(-2) @ Maryland: pick WF = LOST. Demon Deacons really missed their Wake up call.
Memphis @ East Carolina(-8.5): pick Mem = LOST. KCFR walks the plank, is 1-6 picking ECU games.
Baylor @ Oklahoma St(-17): pick OSU = WON. KCFR picked Cowboys by 4 TDs, right on the money.
Week Nine results: 2-1
Central Florida at Tulsa(-23.5): pick Tulsa = WON. Hurricanes are Golden ATS 6-1.
New Mexico St(-14) @ Idaho: pick NMSU = LOST. Vandals win but still dead last in my book.
Penn St(-2.5) @ Ohio St: pick PSU = WON. No Lions this week so slim pickin's.
Week Ten results:
West Virginia(-4.5) @ Connecticut: pick UConn = LOST. Mountaineers have gotten well last 2 gms.
Kentucky @ Miss St(-3.5): pick UK = WON. Coach Brooks is keeping his banged up troops going.
Troy(-10) @ La-Monroe: pick Troy = LOST. ULM has foiled KCFR Best Bets for the last time!
Washington @ USC(-44): pick USC = WON. BB split thanks to sad sorry situation in Seattle sports.
Week Eleven results:
Oregon St(-7.5) @ UCLA: pick OSU = WON. You might want to go against Bruins again this week.
NC State @ Duke(-4): pick Duke = LOST. Somehow KCFR computer should have known better (sigh).
Southern Miss(-3) @ Central Florida: pick USM = WON. Eagles adjusting well now to new staff.
Week Twelve results: CRASH, BURN :(
Ohio State(-9.5) @ Illinois: pick Illinois = LOST. Missed by one freaking point.
Also, Tulane(-5) and Washington(+7) were big losers. My Huskies have crapped on everything,
including KCFR.
Week Thirteen picks:
Michigan St @ Penn St(-14.5): pick PSU = WON. Best Bets is Thankful for Lions for winning year.
NC State @ North Carolina(-11): pick UNC by 23 = LOST. A.C.C. means Anti Computer Compatible.
Week Fourteen picks: Final Feast.
Texas(-34.5) over Texas A&M. Aggies allowed 41 pts to BAYLOR! How high will the Horns go?
Time for some BCS posturing. Longhorns by 50.
Ole Miss(-13.5) over Miss State. Rebels can be Cotton pickin with Egg Bowl win. MSU has won ATS
last 3 times. Rebels wreak revenge with 27 pt win.
Nebraska(-16.5)over Colorado. Buffs avg 14 pts/gm last 7. Huskers scoring 38 per game last 6.
That's 24 difference right there, but KCFR says Big Red by 28.
This completes Best Bets for the 2008 season.
Wishing all a Happy (urp) Turkey Day, and may
your holiday aftermath be less mess than the BCS!
