Skiing (snow) in 2004
2004 was the first year in a long time that we weren't able to take a family
ski vacation up to Vermont. It seemed like
soccer commitments, school activities, and work kept conspiring against
us. However, Kerry did however manage to get
in several single days of climbing. He was able to get to local slopes
(typically in the Poconos) a few times and he was able
to manage two single days of skiing out in Keystone, Colorado. It
was a very tough work year, with a LOT of traveling to
California and Denver. Nevertheless, Kerry was able to take a couple
of vacation days during a couple of those trips
to Denver, and made it out to Keystone for some skiing.
One one trip, the weather was bitterly cold, but there was a lot of good
fresh snow, whereas the other trip was almost prototypical
Spring skiing. Nevertheless, both days were filled with some great
skiing.
Kerry even made it out to Shawnee (a little ski resort nearby in the Poconos)
a few days after Christmas (right after they opened). The snow
itself was surprisingly good, even though everything between the opened
runs were quite "brown". Ironically, Kerry's last day of skiing
in the East was also at Shawnee. He and Mike went there just a couple
of days before they closed in March. We skied in the morning,
and again
the snow was in pretty good condition, but about the time we left it was
warming up, and things were getting soft.
Below are some pictures of Shawnee.
Below are some of the pictures from the two trips to Keystone, Colorado.
The first one was the trip in February, in which
it was a wee bit chilly. The others are from the "spring skiing" day
in March. Below you can see a view of Keystone from the parking lot.
The first two pictures below were taken from the main summit, and you can
see Breckenridge in the background. The other picture
just shows one of the panoramic views from one of Keystone's longer runs.
