Perry Berezan played two seasons at the University of North Dakota. Berezan made his NHL debut with the Calgary Flames near the end of the 1984–85 season. Berezan joined the San Jose Sharks as a free agent before their inaugural season. Berezan was given credit for the series-clinching goal in the 1986 Campbell Conference Finals which was actually put into the net by Edmonton Oilers defenceman Steve Smith.
