Taigi's were developed by Tohei Sensei to enhance the Ki connection or coordination between the Uke (one who is thrown) and Nage (one who throws). Along with the connection Taigi's are designed to promote rhythm and timing along with a calm mind for both Uke and Nage. Yearly a pseudo competition is held where participants perform a specific set of Taigi arts that changes from year to year. This is not a competition using common definition, the participants are not encouraged to compete against each other but to compete against their own past performances. Taigi's are also timed to help gauge the rhythm and timing of the techniques. There are 31 Taigi's, each one is usually made up of 6 Aikido techniques, each being performed on the left then the right before moving on to the next Aikido technique.
The schedule of Taigi's to be taught weekly is posted in dojo
The typical sequence is, the first week the instructor breaks the techniques down in a one by one sequence. The second week focuses on fine tuning with rhythm and timing.

Taigi's are a sequence of Aikido techniques done to promote rhythm and timing while maintaining mind body coordination by the Nage (one who throws) and Uke (one who is thrown).
