Dawn
We are the human parents of four very unique feline beings. Our joke to friends and family is that we are the parents of three and three fourths cats, however. One of our treasures, Trixie, lost her right hind leg at the knee in an accident before we met her.
My husband is a chef by training and trade. Two years ago, Trixie appeared at the back door of the restaurant Chris operated. It was cold, she was soaked, crying in hunger and fear, and missing a limb. Her cry then, and now, was almost a ragged croak. With one cat at home, we knew that we were taking a chance taking her straigh to our home. Chris and his mom took this wet, scared, hungry, being to the vet, got her tested, got her shots, and then, she came home.
There was a bit of craziness when Trixie arrived. Our Pickles was so happy as the one and only. Surprisingly, Pickles only spent about an hour being angry. When she realized that Trixie had real problems, her heart softened.
Trixie lost her limb in a farming accident - common in the area around the restaurant where Chris worked. She had also been terribly teased and probably abused by some of the young men in the immediate area. Rescue was necessary.
Trixie spent the first two months on my lap, eating, sleeping, and pooping. She started to get bigger in the middle and the vet confirmed what we knew to be true. Soon, she was a furry beachball, miserable, and finding great joy in trying to catch her own tail. Ever see a three legged, full term pregnant cat chase her own tail? I so wish I had a video.
Five babies popped on our kitchen floor to the joy of those of us watching. We kept two of the babies and named them Flavio (the token male) and Bridged. They fight, snort, curl up with us and each other, eat (lots.), poop (LOTS),. and play. We have to scratch behind Trixie's right ear for her, but we have to do that for the others, too. Our three legged wonder is just that, a wonder. I hope they are as happy being ours as we are being theirs.
