MURAL - Artist Paul Chidlaw  (1900-1989)

Paul Chidlaw was a native Cincinnatian who lived and worked soley in Cincinnati except for has various travels and his studies in France, when Picasso and Matisse were active during the hayday of French modern art. His singular genius as an artist and teacher made his name a legend in his time, as well as as "Cincinnati's leading modernist" (Owen Findsen art critic) Pictured at left is a 1939 photo taken in the music room of the Community Building.  The wall mural still exists today although it is in need of restoration.

FRIEZE - Artist Richard Zoellner (1909 - 2003)

The frieze in the community building library depicts the Ohio River's influence on the building of Cincinnati and its environs. The mural is done in colored chalks, a new medium at the time. One scene depicts the great flood of 1937. It is in surprisingly good condition considering most other murals done by  the WPA  in Cincinnati have been painted over or have been destroyed by building demolition. Richard Zoellner was a professor at The University of Alabama Department of Art in the 1940's, where he taught painting and print making until 1979. MURAL - Artist Leo Murphy

Leo Murphy painted a 180 ft, three-wall mural in the cafeteria of the Community building. The murals were designed for community gatherings and were lighthearted reflections of everyday life in the community. Unfortunately they have been painted over and the room is now used for maintenance equipment and storage by the school district.
