The unique planning feature of the three Greenbelt towns was, of course, the Greenbelt.
Its purpose was to separate the town from surrounding built-up areas, to provide a land reserve for expansion, and to provide a rural environment for the townspeople.
Of the original 5,930 acres belonging to Greenhills, some 2,045 acres are now Winton Woods, approximately 530 acres are the corporate limits of Greenhills, and 3,400
acres were eventually sold to Warner - Kanter Company for the development of Forest Park.
Greenhills is the only one of the three "Greenbelt communities" to retain its total
Greenbelt. Thus it stands alone in the United States in unique testimony to the ideals of its pioneers.
