About Me ~ Kimberly

This is me and my first Cabbage Patch Kid Joanne Sylvia. I got her when the crazy was going on in 1983. My Mom tried very hard to get me one for Christmas but the crazy was so wild that they were always sold out. I got Joanne just after Christmas. My Mom wanted it to be a surprise so she didn't tell me and she went alone on her journey. She waited for hours in a long line just to see which Cabbage Patch Kids they had left. When she got to the front of the line she could see that they were all the same Cabbage Patch Kids with the same outfit on and every thing, they were just different color outfits. Luckily I was home when she called. My Mom wasn't sure if I would want an African-American Cabbage Patch Kid or if I would rather wait until they got more in. Well of course I didn't care I just wanted a Cabbage Patch Kid. The color of the outfits I got to choose from were pink, orange or bright green. Pink was my favorite color at the time so of course I said pink. I was so excited. My Mom took this picture as soon as she got her home and into my arms for the first time.

I took Joanne everywhere that my Mom would allow me. I loved her as if she was real. I was a tom-boy and so I didn't care for dolls a whole lot but I loved Joanne with all that my heart could give.

A friend of mine, Christina, had gotten her first Cabbage Patch Kid about the same time and had gotten the exact same doll as mine with out known which one I had. So we would pretend that they were twins separated at birth and now they were lucky that their mommies were friends because now they could see each other all the time.

Joanne was the only Cabbage Patch Kid I had as a child. When I was about 16 I gave her away and have regretted it ever since. In March 2002 I decided to turn to eBay for the first time to begin looking for a look a like Joanne Cabbage Patch Kid to fill my void for her. Not only did I find one that was pre-loved but I also found one that was mint and in the box. I now have a growing Cabbage Patch Kid collection. Some are mint in box and I bought some that were pre-loved so I can pass them down to my kids to play with when I am ready to begin a family.

I couldn't just have one collection ... no I had to have several. I also collect Porcelain Dolls, Cinderella, Coins, Stamps and Elmo to name a few. I am always adding to my web site so make sure you come back and visit us here at Kimberly's Doll House.
