Back Up your Computer Files! Part Three 2007-03

Last month, we talked about using Windows XP's build-in scheduler to automatically backup our files. A few of our readers has tried our suggestions, some are successful while others have encountered the "can not execute command" error message in the scheduler. The most likely cause of the error is the Log In ID (Run As) you used does not have permission to backup the files.

To get around this problem, you can create a BACKUP account; give it permission to backup every file on the computer.

In windows Explorer, high-light My Computer, then right mouse click and select Manage. Expend the Local Users and Groups folder; you will see Users and Groups. Add a NEW user, name it BACKUP and give it a password ( use something really simple, like savemyfiles)

Next, open up the Groups folder, open the Administrator Group, and add the BACKUP account you just create. Click OK, and close the Computer Management window.

Now you have created the BACKUP account, Open up the Schedule Task program. Double click on the Name of you backup task. Change the Run As account to BACKUP and save. You scheduled job will now run by itself without problem.
