Emergency List 2007-01
No one likes to think about emergencies. Never the less, we should take the time to be prepared. Take a look how we prepared ours.
We have taken about 30 minutes, though about all the things we need, and put them on a list. The list is organized in two ways. First by what the item is and where it's located, then, for each location (in this case, each floor of the house) what items we need to gather. Here is our example.
You should take 30 minutes to do the same. If you have Microsoft Excel, you can start with a blank file; enter your data following the example below
How do you come up with the list of items you need? That is easy. Think about what you do on a daily bases. What is the first thing you do when you get up in the morning? You may brush your teeth, get the paper, eat breakfast, take your medicine and vitamins. Go through the typical day in your head and note the items you MUST HAVE. After you are done with your items, consider what is your pet's needs, Do you have a spouse or kids? What are their needs?
Some other emergency items, such as a battery powered radio, first aid kit, drinking water, etc, should be on your list automatically.
In our example, you will see we have gone the extra step of creating two lists, one for a short emergency, and the other for a longer period.
Once you have composed the list, print a paper copy, and put it at a place where you get to easily. We put ours in the hall way closet where the first aid kit is, and another copy in the study
