Nevis Trips October 2002/2003

Margaret (you know, Peter's wife? my sister-in-law? Pay Attention!) has friends who happened to own a house on the island of Nevis (pronounced nee' viss), which is part of the country St. Kitts and Nevis.  Peter and Margaret had taken advantage of offers to stay in the house on a couple of occasions, and Peter had even operated ham radio on one visit.  The house is located on the Golden Rock Plantation.  Also on the Plantation is the Golden Rock Inn.
Turns out Doc, W9NY, frequently operates in the CQWW DX SSB contest in October from one of the bungalows at the Inn.  In 2002, Peter, Margaret, Glen (W4GKA), Chris and I traveled to Nevis, stayed in Margaret's friends' house and operated CQWW SSB with Doc and Karl (V44NK) from the Inn.  In 2003 we all returned, this time joined by Jim (AD4J).  For the 2003 operation we shipped down a 40-foot tall tower and rotator, so we had a much stronger signal.
Nevis is a marvelous place to vacation.  There is a spectacular beach at Nisbet, up near the airport.  There is also a Four Seasons Resort, complete with championship golf course.  Sunshine's is THE place to go at night, and the Botanical Gardens are worth a visit.  Chris and I went horseback riding on the beach, and we took a day trip to St. Kitts via ferry.
