Montserrat Trip October 2007

Here are some pictures from our trip to Montserrat in October 2007.  Peter, Margaret, Glen, Chris and I flew down for a bit of relaxation and to operate in the CQWW DX SSB contest.  We stayed at Gingerbread Hill, where our hosts, David and Clover Lea, welcome ham radio operators and treat all guests extremely well.  You can check out Gingerbread Hill at http://www.volcano-island.com/
With so many of us on this trip, we rented a van.  Margaret was the usual driver, and she did a great job white-knuckling us around on the narrow roads.  Like many Caribbean islands, Montserrat has wide, deep gutters for runoff.  If you drive a tad too far to the left, you can lose a wheel over the edge into the gutter.  We were told that if that happened, we should just wait until enough folks came by to lift the vehicle back onto the road.  Fortunately, we never had that experience.
On this trip we all took a tour via boat from Little Bay down to Plymouth.  It gave us a totally different perspective on the damage caused by the volcano eruption.
Once again, Frankie (VP2MNI) was instrumental in the success of our radio operation.  He has become a good friend.
