Dominica Trip October 2005

In our continuing quest to visit different Caribbean islands we chose Dominica in October 2005.  This time Chris and I were joined by Peter and Margaret, Glen (W4GKA) and Jim (AD4J).  We hauled two radios, one amplifier, two small tri-band yagis and a bunch of wire to the island and set it all up to operate in the CQWW DX SSB contest.  Local resident and ham Lambert Charles was of enormous assistance.  Among other things, he cut down and delivered two 25-foot tall bamboo masts for us to put up the yagis.  What a new experience that was!  Lambert also took us on a wonderful tour of the island.  One day Chris and I will return to take the tram ride through the rain forest.  We stayed at Sea Cliff Cottages in Calibishie, which is on the northeast portion of Dominica.  The owners are very ham friendly, and have hosted many contest operations.
