St. Croix Trip October 2001

John (W3MF) rented Windwood on St. Croix for the 2001 CQWW DX SSB contest.  He was kind enough to invite his brother Bob (K3PH) and me along.  The invitation included Chris.  We all flew down together from Philadelphia, although John and Bob flew First Class.  At the time, Windwood was the home of the WP2Z super station, including towers, antennas, rig and amplifier.  We took an extra rig and amplifier, just in case.  The station actually needed quite a bit of work to get it ready, so we spent the first two days out in the sun fixing antennas.
Unfortunately, Bob took ill, so he and John headed home before the contest.  I was not mentally prepared for the grind of single-op, so I put in a halfhearted effort in the contest, and Chris and I utilized my off times for some extra sightseeing.  The highlight was a horseback ride through the rainforest.
