Like
many students Ken started musical studies on popular organ at age 10. Ken
played a small Robert Morton pipe organ in a church in northeast Los Angeles
before he reached age 13. He occasionally substituted for the regular organist.
The little Robert Morton introduced Ken to the pipe organ. this began a "love
affair" that continues to this day.
In college, Ken studied under Dr.
David Britton. After college Ken had the good fortune to meet and become the
'Best of Friends" with RCA Camden recording artist, Randy Layne. Under Randy's
expertise , Ken continued to hone skills on Hammond.
In the
late 1980's Ken worked the Los Angeles studios as a pianist, organist and
arranger. By 1987 tired of the smog filled air and high crime rate, Ken moved
his residence from a townhouse condominium in Pasadena, California, to a horse
ranch in the Lake Elsinore-Temecula Valley.
In addition to his standard work,
Ken worked with Institutional Organ Sales for Baldwin (now Church Organ
Systems) and Johannus in Southern California. Not the type to make enemies of
competition he also developed good relationships with representatives of the
Allen and Rodgers Organ Companies.
By 1989 the Warner Grand Center
for the Performing Arts hired Ken as House Organist and Music Director. Ken
served the Warner Grand until the theater building was sold to a promoter of
"rock bands". At the Warner Grand Ken performed on a very large custom
electronic theater organ, playing sing-a-longs, doing silent movie
accompaniment, fashion shows, and providing a community service as an "organ
instructor" at open house "jam sessions".
On a fluke, Ken also dabbles in
the renting of automobiles "props" to the movie and television production
industry.
In 1994, Ken invested in a small condominium in Palm Desert,
California. In the process of fixing up the condominium it was discovered that
he really enjoyed the Coachella Valley and Palm Springs resort cities. He
relocated to a home in the Coachella Valley in 1998.
Ken is
going back into the music biz and is preparing a series of books and
arrangements for Church Organists. This series is designed to make the life of
the over-worked and under-paid Church Organists a lot easier.
