The Worlds Most Cost Effective Cooking Device!
The VILLAGER SUN OVEN can prepare food for 300 to 500 people per
day. A safe estimate is to allocate one VILLAGER SUN OVEN for every 400 people. (Based on 2 meals a
day.) Each oven will enable the community to conserve 340,000 lbs. (154,224 Kg.) of wood annually at a daily
cost of only $0.0016. The demands of population growth coupled with deforestation for agricultural and fuel
use, have outstripped much of the Third World’s ability to regenerate its forests. Deforestation is having
a negative effect on weather patterns, causing soil erosion, reducing the world’s source of free oxygen, and depleting
plant and animal life.
VILLAGER SUN OVENS (more pictures) were developed to
help feed large groups of people without destabilizing the environment or adding to the world’s current deforestation
problem. The long term negative effects of using wood as a fuel source is reason enough to look for an alternate
source of energy. If you couple this with the social and economical impact of using wood it becomes evident
that solar cooking is the most environmentally friendly and economical way to prepare large quantities of food.
Due to inclement weather conditions the VILLAGER SUN OVEN can
not be used
100 % of the time. For the illustration presented below it
is assumed that the Oven is to be used with the sun as the energy source 85% of the time. The propane back
up system can be used for the remaining 15% of time when solar energy is not available due to bad weather.
|
For each Villager Sun Oven - Number of people fed per day:
400
Number of meals annually: (Based on 2 meals per day used for 85%
of cooking) 248,200
Total number of meals: (Based on 15 year useful life of the oven)
3,723,000
Oven and energy expense per meal: $0.0027
Annual firewood replaced: 340,000 lbs. (154,224 Kg.)
Total wood replacement: (Based on 15-year life of oven) 5.1 million
lbs. (2.3 million Kg.)
Oven expense per pound of wood: $0.0012
Oven expense per ton of wood: $3.92
|
For each dollar invested over 370 meals can be prepared and 510
lbs. (231 Kg.) of wood can be saved. What could be more natural, more logical?
We have found that it is best to start a project with at least
two (2) VILLAGERs. The ideal package for the most practical economies of scale would include five (5), or
multiples of five (5), VILLAGER SUN OVENS at a time. These ovens are paid for only through gifts, grants,
donations or major donor contributions. Please contact Jerry Williams to express interest in sponsoring one
or more micro-sun-bakeries, email: EnCorps@att.net
