I had a very enjoyable 30 year career in meteorology.
I was trained in meteorology at the University of Utah while in the USAF. The Air Force sent me to Kadena AFB, Okinawa where I served as a forecast officer for three years. I left the Air Force to pursue more education in the field at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW). After receiving my Masters degree in meteorology, I went to work at UW's Space Science and Engineering Center. My primary interest throughout my career was in computerizing weather data (particularly satellite data) to facilitate research and forecasting. In 1979, I, along with two others, formed Colorgraphic Weather Systems, Inc. We developed and manufactured the first computerized weather graphics system for broadcast meteorology
