Jim's Prototype Spectrohelioscope
SHS - First Prototype
A spectrohelioscope is an instrument for observing the Sun in the light of any spectral line. Hydrogen-alpha is the most common. This enables one to witness the everchanging loops, flares, and prominences. About 24 years ago I got the bug to build one of these instruments, but it was not until the spring of 2002 that I finally put tool to metal and began transforming a pile of parts into this prototype in the Arcetri layout using Anderson prisms in the Petit arrangement.
