Commute and Exploration

Morning was the usual straight shot into Frederick along Rt. 26.

In the afternoon I once again I stopped by my local shop, The Bicycle Escape, and said "Hi" (OK I really wanted some wintergreen lifesavers that Tom has out in a bowl on the counter).

I followed part of the regular route, making the choice of longer, shallower gradient over shorter and steeper. Today, the tailwinds that chased me east yesterday were returning, giving me a stiff headwind. At Chestnut Grove Rd, I crossed to the north side of Rt. 26 and into some pretty steep hills. I went west on Daysville Rd for a bit to capture some cul-de-sacs, then back towards Libertytown. At the bottom of one steep hill in the Wisperren Oaks development, I decided to drop into my 32x18 gear (manual shift). This turned out to be a problem, due to recently putting fenders on the Quickbeam. I puttered around with it a bit and then flipped the wheel over to my super bailout of 32x23. That gave me a more reasonable centering, so I could keep the fender on. Going to have to play with that one a bit to get it right. It had the added attraction of maing the rest of the hills on the way home quite manageable, so home I went.

DSC05158 Along Chestnut Grove Road. Steep down, then up. I made it but it killed me for the rest of the ride.
DSC05159Same location. Kinda pretty.
Today's Map. GPS batteries died about where the photos were taken. Secondary color is the rest of the route. About 29 miles total.
