My
1978 Limited Edition MGB| It started as a trip to
Traders Village
in Houston to see the British Car Show to relive memories of my 1969
MGB
that I had to sell back in '82 due to finances and the need for a more
reliable daily driving car. Young and broke, we've all been there. I've
regretted selling that car ever since. At the car show I was busy taking pictures of some of the finer MGB's, Midgets, and Bugeye sprites when I noticed a very run down 68 mgb for $650. Major rust, dented fenders, 4 flat tires, etc. Its what I thought I would have to settle for, and rebuild bottom up. Looking for my wife to show her the car, and explain the possibilities it had, I found her... Negotiating with an owner of a 1978 MGB. Figuring she was just bluffing, I went along with the charade. The gentleman came down on his price to a reasonable $2500, and my wife surprised me with a very early 40th birthday gift. (I'm still smiling) |

MGB-GT
(Peter Tork)
Lately my mind is drifting back
To former days that used to be.
I think about some folks I knew and of my MGB-GT.
People let me tell you that if I had to make a recipe
For fun in driving I would have to spell it MGB-GT.
Cruising, using, choosing it,
amusing myself without a care;
Striving, thriving, hot-rod driving,
not arriving anywhere.
Folks, this little car of mine
was like a kitten purring throatily.
Sometimes it even seemed to soar
into the heavens, my red MGB-GT.
Tooling, fueling my good feeling,
schooling me in ways to know
Soaring, flooring it, adoring it,
my little way to go.
Folks, this little car of mine
was like a kitten purring throatily.
Sometimes it even seemed to soar
into the heavens, my red MGB-GT.
But I, I learned you have to lose some things
before you treasure them,;that's how it goes.
And I, I didn't give time to my car
and lost my car to time; what did I know?
And so life carries on,
And lots of things are better now for me.
And yet I think back on those golden times
When I had my red MGB-GT.
