Jazz Information

Of musical interest is a 1939-1940 weekly publication called "JAZZ INFORMATION". Here are the texts of many of the issues of this small weekly, beginning September 19, 1939. Volumes will be added from time to time. The various personnel, dates, and locations are given for the many great jazz artists many of whom were quite young and are now wonderful memories.

Bill played lead alto/clarinet, John Meadows-tenor sax/clarinet, Connie DiSomma-piano, Maury Sword- Bass and drummer temporarily unidentified. The group played mostly for country club dances, high school proms and variious society affairs.

Ham Radio Links and Information

I am a member of the (Click here)U.S. Naval Cryptologic Veterans' Association and active in the associated radio net activities called FRUPAC (Fleet Radio Unit Pacific - our WW2 Unit designation).

While serving with FRUPAC, I was assigned to Guam in 1944. After things settled down in early 1945, I somehow auditioned and was accepted into a 17 piece Army dance band (even though I was Navy!).This was the "8th AAF Radio Squadron Mobile's Band" and we played gigs at the various officers' clubs, particularly the one at Northwest Field (Later home of the B29s) I managed to keep a photo of the band with autographs on the reverse. Here is that photo:

Band members were: Rear, left to right: Freddie Hart-Drums: Clyde E. Hewitt-Bass: Ralph Martin-Piano. Next row down: Joe Shepherd (portion of head showing)-3rd Trumpet: Freddie DiSylva-1st Trumpet: Tony Laverghetta-2nd (and solo)Trumpet: Robert S. Thompson and Francis (Red) Cunningham-Trombones: Next Row: Hank Hudson-Tenor Sax: Jerry Zeppetello**-3rd Alto Sax: Benny Brooks-Lead Alto Sax: Marty Markowitz-Tenor Sax: (Robert West, Harry Piper- Guitars): Arnie Green, Vocalist. Front row center: Joe Kuriathowski, Leader and Dean A. Adamson-Band Officer. It was with this band that I experienced my first and only "Boilermaker".

** A January 2000 e-mail from Jerry's sister-in-law, Mary Ann Zeppetello, stated that Jerry passed away about 8 years ago.
