William Petersen's fans are getting a rare chance to see the actor do something he's never done; appear on the Broadway stage.
"I've done all my theater over the last twenty years in Chicago. This is the first time I've ever been in New York and it's really because of this play; my love for the play and for the production, that I wanted to come and do it." |
|
| Petersen stars in the revival of Tennessee William's "Night of the Iguana". He portrays Shannon a defrocked minister who's at the end of his ropes. The production originated in 1994 at the Goodman Theater in Chicago where Petersen lives. He along with costars Cherry Jones and Laurence McCauley reprise their roles. Marsha Mason joined the cast in New York. | ||

So what have you done that's different with this production than other productions of Iguana?
"What Bob Falls did with our production, which is I think remarkable, is he restored a lot of, I think, what Tennessee initially wanted to have in this production; the feeling and vulnerability of the characters in the production and their humanity to each other" |

Just as Petersen makes his Broadway debut a new film starring the actor is being release. "Fear" casts Petersen as a protective dad who is suspicious of his daughter's boyfriend.
"I have a daughter who is now twenty years old so I can relate to the situation. I was fortunate, you know, my daughter went out with good guys, but you never know! I wouldn't have wanted my daughter to go out with me either." |
|
|
Petersen will play another Dad this May in the NBC mini series "The Beast" based on the Peter Benchley novel, a thriller about an ocean creature out for blood. The mini series was shot in and around the waters of Australia.
"Nothing happened which was good. I actually saw some sharks while I was there." |

Petersen won't encounter any sharks for awhile. "The Night of the Iguana" only calls for him to free an Iguana. The reptile in this production is fake.
