Greetings! (May 2003)
Greetings!

One morning this week, sleeping peacefully in our bed in Georgia, we were awakened by the very unusual occurrence of an EARTHQUAKE! The house rattled and creaked and held!

That morning we got to thinking about "earthquakes we have known" and made a list of several places we had been when other earthquakes had happened:

California (for sure); Chile (several times...it lies on a belt of major seismic activity); Costa Rica; Ecuador (the standing joke in that country of changing dictators and presidents after a jolt of an earthquake was "The government just fell again."); Alaska; Nicaragua and perhaps others that we can't recall.

What about your list? Do you remember where you were when that earthquake (either literal or figurative) hit? Did your "house" rattle and creak, but hold?

The appropriate verse for all those "earthquake" times is found in Psalm 46:1 & 2 "God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear, even if earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea."

antenna God had a major time of keeping us and being our strength in Australia the first part of this year as we slugged it out in the extreme heat, fighting repeatedly antagonistic antenna systems. It was a really good growing experience for our spirits, but a bit hard on our bodies:-)

HCJB-Australia is now broadcasting from Kununurra, in north west Australia to the South Pacific and to India. We know the devil is not happy with godly broadcasts to that part of the world which is held so tight in his grasp so please pray with us for GOD'S HAND of protection in the midst of "quakes and crumbles".

Besides Australia, we have had some shorter trips....Colorado Springs, Florida and Ecuador. John was asked to be part of a committee to study the future of shortwave radio in Latin America and spent many hours weighing the pros and cons, listening to people and writing reports.

We have also built some equipment for a radio project in the Sudan and given consulting advice for radio stations in Panama, Darwin, Sri Lanka, Chile, the Philippines, Kyrgyzstan and the USA. It is always nice when the advice can be given via phone or e-mail. (We did do it the airplane way to Panama and stopped in Darwin after our long stay in Kununurra, Australia.)

However, it looks like we have a short breather for a couple of months here in Georgia before going in the air again in July (work group to England); August & September (major transmitter installment in Palau). We appreciate the chance to take roots in our local church and community for a while and to be of service to Mom Stanley in Tennessee as she sunsets her life.

The day before the earthquake, our local church honored us with a Stanley Dinner and a love offering. That too "rattles and shakes" us (in a good way!) when we think of all of the people who give in His name so we can go in His name. God bless each one of you who touch our lives.

Holding.....
