Radio Christian Voice, Chile (Feb 2000)
transmitter The Stanleys returned to Chile early in 2000 to do further training of the technical staff and to work on transmitter and antenna problems. Don Moore, of Maryville, TN, who was a high school friend and MIT roommate of John, joined them for several weeks of work. During their time in Calera De Tango, near Santiago, they worked on various problems in the Harris 100 thousand watt shortwave transmitters, and Don refurbished switches that allow the antenna beam to be directed to various countries, including Africa and Brazil.

CVC came on the air in 1998 after Christian Vision, a British mission, purchased the transmitter site of Chile National Radio. This site has 8 high power transmitters and 8 beam antennas that allow it to broadcast to all of the Americas and Africa.

transmitter building Programs produced by an all Latin American staff go out to all of the western hemisphere 24 hours a day. You can hear CVC on 21.500 MHz shortwave during the day in most of the USA. All programs are in Spanish, and include news, contemporary Christian music, programs for women and youth, and Bible teaching and preaching. Letters and E-mails are received from all over Latin America and are followed up by the staff in Miami.

The Stanleys were involved with this station beginning with the initial evaluation of the site in 1995 which eventually led to its purchase and refurbishing as a modern shortwave station. A station of this size must maintain a spare parts inventory worth many tens of thousands of dollars and consisting of thousands of separate parts. In 1998, Ruth set up a computerized inventory system to track these and simplify ordering. Since then, she has ordered many of the parts needed for the operation of the station and sent them on to Chile.
