Death of W. A. Loe
Rev. W. A. Loe, more famalilry known as Anderson Loe, a pioneer resident of Mercer county, died at his country home, near Modena, Sunday, December 20, at 2 o'clock a.m.
Rev. Loe was a native Missourian being born in Ray county on April 20, 1840, and emigrated to Mercer county at an early age, locating on a farm in Madison township where he resided until the breaking out of the civil was at which time he enlistied in Co. C, 5th Kansas Cavalry.
He served his country three years, during which time he was severely wounded in the throat. He represented Mercer county in the state legislature in 1881-2.
He came to Princeton in 1887 and engaged in the grocery business with Geo. W. Wilcox for three years. He then sold out and engaged in the furniture business for three or four years, then returned to the farm.
For the past seven or eight years he has been confined to his home and bed by rheumatism. He was possessed of a most kind and genial disposition, and while suffering the most acute pain, as he lay upon his couch, would meet his visitors with a glad hand and cheery voice and manner. He was a life-long member of the Methodist Protestant church and began to preach when a mere boy, continuing until no longer able to stand upon his feet. He died in his 64th year.
He was united in marriage to Sarah A. Horn in January, 1860 on the very day he preached his first sermon. He leaves a wife and five children - Mrs. Eliza J. Everett, Mrs. Martha A. Miller, Elisha D. Loe, John W. Loe and Fred Loe - to mourn the loss of husband and father. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Methodist church at Modena, conducted by Rev. McVay, after which the remains were laid to rest in Salem cemetery.
    W. A. Loe was one of God's noblemen, and his place will never be again occupied in hearts of his many friends and neighbors.
