Wesley Mc Porter   May 13, 1817 - March 18, 1912 Wesley Mc Porter was born May 13, 1817 in Willford (should be Rutherford jlp 2004) County Tennessee, near Murfeesboro, leaving there when a small boy and coming to Jackson County Mo.  When a young man he located in Mercer County, and this has been his home.  He was united in marriage to Helen Laughlin Feb. 11, 1845 who proceeded him to the other world on March 18, 1891.  To this union were born nine children, four boys and five girls.  Two preceded him in death and the others live to morn his departure.  He fell asleep in Jesus at his home, March 18, 1912 at the venerable age of 94 years, 10 months and 5 days.  He was a lifelong member of the M.E. Church South, having been converted early in life.  He was also an ardent member of the Masonic fraternity.  His death was stingless and painless, he quietly passed away to be with his God.  He leaves behind seven children, thirty-two grandchildren, thirty-nine great grandchildren, and a host of friends and neighbors to mourn his absence.  He was one of the early settlers of this county, respected and honored by all who knew him.  His life was in harmony with the religion he professed, and one that no one has any reason to be ashamed of.
