Well here it is my first attempt at a web site. I wanted to be able to share my modification of a DWL-G650 D-Link Wifi card.
I hope everyone can see this good enough. In the red circle is where the infamous connector used to be, but it accidentally ripped off the board during the first modification I did. With the connector gone there was no connection to the antenna so I soldered a small wire to each end to “make the connection.” In the blue circle is the capacitor that is needed for the antenna. I don’t know what would happen if this was removed. I think it may prevent any built up static on the antenna from coming back into the card. In the yellow circle is an area where I scraped away the actual connection to the on-board antenna. That way you don’t have two antennas in parallel. The green circles are where I soldered the shielding of the antenna cable to the “Ground” of the card.
I know what you are all saying “It looks like shit.” But it works. With the omni-directional antenna added on I saw significant improvements with reception of WAP’s and even one PEER.

On the left is the first cable that connects to the pigtail on the card. On the right, in yellow, you can see how it connects to the pigtail on the card. I scrounged around my place of employment to find this locking connector. In the red circle is a hole I made for the first modification that didn’t work.

On the right is the omni-directional antenna I made from plans I found on the net, for the mod. It is just made from a UHF connector and 10 gauge solid wire. It works good and it is low profile. It is attached to a strong magnet at the bottom so you can stick it anywhere on the exterior of your vehicle. I put it on the roof of my car above me like the old Starsky & Hutch TV show where they would put their Police Light. Below is the link to where you can get the plans on how to make one for yourself. The antenna is not my design so I don't know any of the specifications about it, I just know it works well.
Omni-Directional Antenna
Well I hope these pictures and information were helpful to everyone. Use whatever you can find to make your projects work. Myself, I don’t care what something looks like as long as it does the job well. And try to use the resources around you instead of buying some fancy piece of crap from someone else. "One Man's Trash is Another Man's Treasure". This antenna cost me like 3 or 4 dollars verses a $65 antenna off the web and it works very well. Feel free to email me with any questions about this mod or anything else related to this project.
