IN THE BEGINNING...

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God.  In the Beginning was God - and all else was darkness, and void, and without form.  So God created the heavens and the earth. He created the sun, and the moon, and the stars, so that light might pierce the darkness. And the earth God divided between the land and the sea, and these He filled with many assorted creatures.

And the dark, salty, slimy creatures that inhabited the murky depths of the oceans, God called sailors, and He dressed them accordingly.

And the flighty creatures of the air He called airmen.  And these He clothed in uniforms which were ruffled and fowl.

And the lower creatures of the land, God called soldiers. And with a twinkle in His eye, and a sense of humor that only He could have, God gave them trousers too short, and covers too large, and pockets to warm their hands.  And to adorn their uniforms, God gave them badges.  And He gave them cords.  And He gave them ribbons... and patches... and stars... and bells.  He gave them emblems... and crests... and all sorts of shiny things that glittered... and devices that dangled.  When you're God, you tend to get carried away in a big way.

And on the 7th day, as you know, God rested. And on the 8th day at 0730, God looked down upon the earth and was not happy.

GOD WAS NOT HAPPY!

So He thought about His labors, and in His infinite wisdom, God created a divine creature and this He called a Marine.  And these Marines whom God created in His own image, were to be of the air, the land, and the sea. And these He gave many wonderful uniforms.

He gave them practical, fighting uniforms, so that they could wage war against the forces of Satan and evil.

He gave them service uniforms for their daily work and training, that they might be sharp and ready.

And He gave them evening and dress uniforms. Sharp, stylish, handsome things, so they might score with the ladies on Saturday night, and impress the hell outta everybody!

And at the end of the 8th day, God looked down upon the earth, and saw that it was good. But was God happy? No!

GOD WAS STILL NOT HAPPY!

Because in the course of His labors, He had forgotten one thing... He did not have a Marine uniform!  But He thought about it, and thought about it, and finally satisfied Himself in knowing that, well, not everybody can be a Marine...

U.S. MARINES

ROUGH, TOUGH, ROMPIN', HELL RAISING, DEATH AND DESTRUCTION.

THE FINEST FIGHTING MACHINE THE WORLD HAS EVER SEEN.

EACH MOMENT THAT I LIVE IS AN ADDITIONAL THREAT UPON YOUR LIFE.

I'M COCKY, SELF-CENTERED, OVERBEARING, AND I DO NOT KNOW THE MEANING OF FEAR FOR I AM FEAR ITSELF.

"SEMPER FIDELIS" ALWAYS FAITHFUL TO GOD, FAMILY, COUNTRY, AND CORPS.

SEMPER FI - DO OR DIE.

I AM A LEAN, MEAN, GREEN, AMPHIBIOUS MONSTER MADE OF BLOOD AND GUTS WHO AROSE FROM THE FIERY DEPTHS OF HELL, WHOSE SOLE PURPOSE IN LIFE IS TO PERPETUATE DEATH AND DESTRUCTION UPON THE FESTERING OF ANTI-AMERICANS THROUGHOUT THE GLOBE, WHENEVER, WHEREVER IT MAY ARISE.

AND, WHEN MY TIME COMES I'LL DIE A GLORIOUS DEATH ON THE BATTLEFIELD, GIVING MY LIFE FOR MOM, APPLE PIE AND THE AMERICAN FLAG.

WE STOLE THE EAGLE FROM THE AIR FORCE, THE ANCHOR FROM THE NAVY AND THE ROPE FROM THE ARMY.

ON THE SEVENTH DAY WHILE GOD RESTED, WE OVERRAN HIS PERIMETER, STOLE THE GLOBE AND WE'VE BEEN RUNNING THE WHOLE SHOW EVER SINCE.

WE LIVE LIKE SOLDIERS, TALK LIKE SAILORS, AND SLAP THE HELL OUT OF BOTH OF THEM.

WARRIORS BY DAY, LOVERS BY NIGHT, PROFESSIONALS BY CHOICE, AND MARINES BY THE GRACE OF GOD.

General

Bush and Marc

The picture of Marc with General Zinni was taken shortly after Marc got to Bahrain in November of 1998.  The picture of a saltier and more muscular Marc with George Bush was taken in June of 1999.

My son has now re-entered civilian life but is still all Marine and reflects it in his values and opinions. He's married a California Gal and has just moved into a new home in Stratford, Connecticut.

I really enjoyed my trip to Parris Island to attend my son's graduation from Parris Island in 1998. It was my first trip back in forty years and I was impressed with the changes.  He's been to SOI, SFTC, IMCSFCo Bahrain, Camp Pendleton CA and Camp Hansen Okinawa.  At Camp Pendleton, he was a member of Echo Co 2/4 and was made a Sergeant of Marines.  The 2/4 joined the 31st MEU in Okinawa in July of 2000 and returned to Camp Pendleton in January of 2001. My son's company was aboard the USS Essex for a cruise off of the coast of Japan, with a landing in Korea and a liberty stop in Hong Kong.  Just prior to the cruise, Marc completed Close Combat Instructor School in Okinawa.  The picture below is of his graduating class.  Probably not a bunch of guys you would want to mess with!

·         Ed PetersonPFC Edward A. Peterson - This link is to show honor to a very brave man, Edward Peterson, who was in the 509th in WWII and was critically wounded in Bastogne on 29 December 1944.  He was my father in law and I, my wife and my son, Sergeant Marc LaBrecque, are proud of what he did and glad to have known him.  When asked, he would say his job was to jump from airplanes and blow up things.  He was an example of the courage, honor and values that our Armed Services hold so dear. It's too bad he couldn't have been at my son's graduation from Parris Island and to see him evolve into a Sergeant of Marines.  I know he would have been very proud of him and my son would have been proud of him.  I salute you "Ed".
