Great tribute to your father in law! I am a SSG with the 509th at Fort Polk at this time and I have never been more honored to serve in any other unit thus far in my career. I had the honor of being in the Color Guard at the 509th reunion in Baltimore in 1998. I met many great old Paratroopers who Im sure knew Ed. At our all ranks ball I was honored to escort two old timers for that weekend and was priveledged to hear Battalion history first hand from those who made it along with your father in law. SEMPER FI MARINES!!! AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I ENJOYED YOUR SITE, IT IS GREAT. ON A PERSONAL NOTE, I'M JUST TURNING TWENTY SIX YEARS OLD AND WANT TO KNOW IF THERE IS AN AGE LIMIT? I'M STILL DECIDING IF I SHOULD JOIN. THE THING IS I'M WORRIED ABOUT THE AGE THING MORE THAN ANYTHING ELES. I DON'T WANT TO BE KNOWN AS THE OLD TIMER THERE AMOUNGEST THE YOUNG ONES. WHAT I WOULD LIKE IS SOME INPUT AND YOUR OPINION WHAT I MIGHT BE WELLING TO DO. AND IF ANYONE ELES SHOULD READ THIS AND WOULD LIKE TO COMMENT ON IT FEEL FREE TO E-MAIL ME. I WOULD BE MOST HONORED WITH YOUR OPINION. PLEASE TYPE 'MARINE' UNDER SUBJECT. THANKS

Great site ... I had a chance to visit Bastone just a few years back and little kids, 8 and 9 years old,
when they found out we were Americans, came up to us and Said, "Thank You American for our life"
The parents of these kids weren't even born during WW2, yet the kids and their parents
have been taught what the American Solider did for them. Sorry I get choked up just thinking about it.
Their continued respect is a living monument to those who fought and died there.

I enjoyed your site and found it very informative. My son is 18 and graduates from high school this June. He made the choice this past January to join the USMC.He leaves for Parris Island after graduation. He is already very proud and commited on the branch of service he chose. I am VERY proud of him and am ready to become a loving, supporting Mom of a Marine. I am looking at every website for anything. I shed my tears out of happiness and proudness for I know he will be an asset to the Corps.Gosh, he hasn't even left yet!!I have copied your first couple pages to give to him and the address for him to look up your site. Thank You.
