I really enjoyed looking at your pictures and reading the articles. I'm not
a marine or related to any, but my very first boyfriend joined after we got
together, then because of some stuff that happened while he was away the
first time after bootcamp, we ended up breaking up. Then I moved to Las Vegas
and lost him. I haven't talked to him in aout 7 months and my heart breaks
more everyday. You see, I still love him with all of my heart. So, if anybody
who reads this knows LCRPL. Matthew McCollough, please tell him I'm home.
Tell him Tiffany loves him more than anything in the world, and I would give
anything to have him back again. THANX! SEMPER FI!

My father served in the 509th from early 1943 in Tunisia to Anzio where he
was wounded. He was with the scout company who captured the island of Ventotene
while the rest of the unit was jumping in Avellino. He was also in the mess
above Venafro. He retired from the Army in 1963. His name was Alfred L. Paul.
He passed away August 25, 2002. He was very proud to have served with the
Gingerbread Men, the best unit of his career.

I was so excited to find your website! I'm the military historian for my
family. One of my father's cousins, Lester Crumley also served with the 509th.
He trained at Fort Benning and was one of the original members. He was in
Operation Torch, etc. It seems that Lester and Edward must have served together
from August 1944 through December 1944. Thank you so much for sharing Edward's
story with the world. My family and I appreciate it so much!

I loved it. I flunked out of jump school because of bad eyesight in 1960.

OUTSTANDING! Loved the Nov 2003 news scroll. Have read before the Marine
Corps spin on Genesis - but I enjoyed reading it once again. In 2002 went
back to PI to support the graduation of young man I knew when he was as a
Boy Scout. His dad, a good friend and a 27-year Army dog who's currently
still in, could not attend as he was serving in Bosnia. I was very pleased
to fill in as best I could and did so in the uniform of the day. An outstanding
time for sure.

I served as a section chief in the 2nd 8" Howitzer Battery in 1958. We made

we left our guns for the relief platoon to take over. My gun's serial # was

I am sitting here with my father-in-law listening to him remember back to
his time in the 509th in France. He is now 86 years old and cant remember
some of the details but he is definitely a proud paratrooper. His name is
Edson Parker and he was from Ohio at the time. Anyone remember him?

I just wanted to tell you how much I loved your site. Im not a marine but
I married CPL Ryan Montgomery this past June. When we met he was stationed
at Beaufort Air Base Less than a month later he was deployed and I wanted
know more about the things my husband loves the most. Since I've looked at
your site i may not be a marine but im honored and very proud to be married
to a marine. And I wanted to let all the marines know how much better I feel
knowing that there the ones keeping this great country safe.

I enjoyed your work on the 509th. My dad (WWII 509th all the way survivor;
invasion to Germany) passed away 2 years ago but he realized a personal dream
when the victory song he co-wrote in Italy (1944)became the "official" victory
song for the 509th. He lived to hear it played by an army marching band.
These old WWII guys had alot of pride for their respective outfits and on
behalf of my dad, the few that remain, I want to thank you for the fine work
you have done here.

who have served our country. I love to read first hand infomation and not
"holly-wooded" info. Thanks for sharing his story. I hope my kids generation
will never forget what his generation did for the world, many fine young
people gave up everything for out county. God bless them and the family they
left behind.

when I signed this guest book 27 June 2005, said I'd be back. My site is
<http://billsusmc.hamonhaus.com>. It was new on Gunny's web-ring at
that time. My web-Host's server died and I've just had my link restored by
the Gunny after being off-the-net for 2 mos. checking the links again. Stay
safe, Bill

TEARS FROM THE YEARS
by Rebecca Waits
I lie dead on my face.
Does it matter my ethic or race?
Do you care I gave my all and my best?
I wont see the honor pinned on my chest.
Cry no tears you me.
For I have completed my destiny.
My mission has only just begun.
I know my work as a soldier is never going to be done.
I am now your Guardian Angel.
My Reconnaissance is now guarding you soul.
Fighting away harm to you that you will never know.
Acknowledgement is something I will never receive on earth.
As my remains decay back into the sand.
My spirit rises to its duty at hand.

The 509th were the best in my eyes and what I heard about them.

My Dad served our country in the 509th infantry. He is 83 yrs old now and
probably doesn't have much time left on this earth. I was just doing a little
research about my brave father. Your website was great.
