I love my Quickbeam, but sometimes it isn't mountain bikey enough. I got a budget mountain bike to take into the Watershed and other fairly technical riding locations.
The Monocog is popular as a pretty good bike for not a lot of money, but I do want a few changes to get it just the way I want it.
The stock gearing is 32x20. I bought a Surly 22t Cog to make the hills just a touch nicer. I took off the delivered chain protector and added a truvative bashring from an old crankset I wore out long ago. Next, I changed the brakes to right/front, left/rear, like on the rest of my bikes. I've done this since my motorcycle days (right brake to the front wheel) years ago. Poser.
I'd been itching to try out a Jones H-bar, but was held back by the cost of the premium titanium bar. Now Titec makes an aluminum version licensed from Jones, and when I saw one in a local shop, I picked it up. Naturally, it tuns out the stock stem and bar are 31.8 clamp diameter and the new bar is 25.4, so I dug out an old silver stem and used it. If I stick with the bar I 'might' get a black stem to keep things color coordinated. I think I said it above... Poser.
