Doi Torii Tourer Bicycle

I had recently been considering getting a geared bike to give a change from all the fixed gears on my other bikes. While I was out in Ohio for my Dad's birthday, I was talking bikes with my cousin, who was thinking about reducing his collection of bikes.

Since the price was right, I ended up bring this nice bike home. I haven't been able to find any info about it on the internet, but I'll keep looking.

He purchased the bike while stationed at Iwakuni in the 80's.

Observations:
27in, not 700c.
Seems to have a really slack seat tube angle, not really picked up in the pictures.
Will a fender fit on with the light located where it is?
I'm pretty sure I'll want a taller stem with more reach.

Update 10/2006:

I've tried a few things, but the bike is really just a bit too small for me. I'll keep it around as a loaner bike though.

Update 02/2007:

I had pulled the rear wheel from this bike to use on my Fuji. I cracked the hub. Oops. I'll eventually get a new 27" rear.

Doi Torii Tourer
Iwakuni, Japan. Doi. Originality.
A neat little generator light, clamped on the front fork.
Seat tube logo.
Also on the seat tube. Registration sticker?
Seat tube at the BB. Yamaguchi Sports Frame, which leads me to believe is was built by Yamaguchi to be rebadged as a Doi.
Biopace baby!
Shimano 600 rear derailleur with a six speed cluster.

Things to do.

Strip, clean and regrease all the bearings
The bike is just a bit small for me, so I might have to get a stem with more reach.
Which would mean new tape, shellac, and whipping twine.
Probably need new cables all around
Tires are looking a bit cracked. Replace.
Need new gum hoods for the break levers
Probably replace saddle, maybe seatpost.
Fenders.
Brake pads - KoolStop Continentals.
Ride like the wind.
