New Year's Day Ride

I'd had no great plans to get in a ride on New Year's, and I got up too late to catch any of the organized ones, but when I walked the dog in the morning, it semed bright, sunny and warm, so I quickly got my stuff together and drove over to Middletown.

I hadn't calculated on the wind. Wow! Steady 30mph from the west. I almost gave up, but wanted to catch a few roads before I quit.

Near the end of the ride I got to do my first good deed of 2008. I found a cell phone in the road and was able to call it's owner who came to get it. I like to think I saved them a few bucks for a replacement phone.

Anyway the ride was hard, but I was pleased with accomplishing as much as I did.

	Starting west. You can see one of the strangest campaign signs ever, a 'Ron Paul for president' one, on the right.
	The first steep hill. There will be more.
	The view back to Middletown.
	Looking back to where the wind was blowing so hard I could barely make it up this hill.
	I had to pedal downhill here. Well, I was on a fixed gear bike, so I had to pedal anyway, but I had to really push it here.
	Someday soon I have to climb up to the monument. But I'll use gears that day.
	More steepness. Time to walk.
	It went up and up forever.
	Hiking trail? I'm still a few miles from the Appalachian Trail.
