In Town

I haven't been riding a lot through the hottest part of the summer, but I've been trying. I was going to do the regular Wednesday night club ride last week, but about 2 pm, I found I was going to have to work late that night. The plus side of that was as I was going home from work, I passed a guy riding a fixed gear on Gas House Pike. I had to stop and say hello, there just aren't that many fixed riders around here. It ended up with a plan to meet in Frederick over the weekend and ride.

Sunday was pretty hot, but the typical August humidity was not as bad as usual, so conditions were pretty good for a ride. I got to Baker Park about 1:45 pm and got the bike ready and tooled around for a bit while waiting. Soon the other rider showed up and introduced himself as Dustin. He said there was another fixer showing up as well, and in a few minutes Gavin got there.

We decided to sort of head north and then loop around. We headed over to and up Market St. hitting a couple of alleys.

We spotted this antique car show at Rose Hill Manor and pulled in to check it out
Dustin and Gavin checking out the cars.

We continued our loop out into the fairly heavy traffic of Rt. 26, but people gave us plenty of room. Heading south we crossed the Monocacy river twice and faced a hot headwind back towards town. We climbed the hill near the fairgrounds, and Dustin and Gavin kindly let me lead a sort of zig zag through the south side of town to let me hit a couple of streets I needed to cross off my list.

Dustin started to have some headset difficulties and as none of us had a headset wrench to tighten things up, we headed back to the park. Once we split up, I decided to head over the the west of Rt. 15 and cross off a couple of more roads.

Scottish Alley
Omar Lane by Ft. Deitrick. Walkway only.
Blue Ridge alley looked promising, but was a dead end.
Heading back into the park I passed the Schifferstadt Museum
I also stopped to take the obligatory bike and bridge pic. You can see that I have switched out my bars and stem from my Fuji, to get everything up nice and high for off road use.
Today's Map. The eastern loop I did with the other guys, and it was about 12 miles. The western section I did on my own, also about 12 miles.
