A bigger chunk of the East County

Our very mild winter continues into February with temps into the upper 40(F)s. Light pants and a wool sweater were all I needed until late in the day, when I added a windbreaker. I hadn't intended to complete all of Rt. 26, but as I approached Libertytown, I was feeling pretty good. so I kept going. On a downhill just before Mt. Pleasant, I heard a spoke break. A bit disappointing for a relatively new rear wheel, but I'm a big guy. I reached the end of Rt. 26 and considered going to the Carroll County line on Rt. 194, but by the time I reached Walkersville, I was reconsidering. It was getting late, and I was wearing out, so I took Coppermine Road. I ended up walking a couple of hills, but I reached home a happy man, with 47 miles the farthest I've ever ridden on a fixed gear bike.

A local checks out my progress.
Looking back to the west on Rt. 31.
Barnes Rd.
Barn Door
Uphill into a development.
Down picturesque Sam's Creek Rd. to the water.
Turn around at the creek.
Nice house along Buffalo Rd.
It's not a real ride without at least a bit of gravel. Jim Smith Lane.
Last year the county put up bike route signs. This one is along Rt. 26.
Frederick County has a number of Wineries. Look for product testing later in the year! Elk Run Winery. Not too many elk around here.
Another bike against the wall pic.
Another winery. Loew Vineyards
Approaching the Clemsonville Methodist Church
West of Libertytown, most of the best views are to the south, and directly into the sun, but this view to the mountains to the northwest is a nice one. It looks across a driving range, and every station was occupied by golfers taking advantage of the nice weather.
I don't know if it's the best in Maryland, as they advertise, but Liberty Road Seafood is pretty good for this far from saltwater. It is frequently crowded.
Entering Mt. Pleasant on Rt. 26.
Barnes Store, a good place for a break.
Just before Israel Creek, I stopped at the Beatty-Cramer House.
The museum was closed, but this house is thought to be the oldest building in Frederick County which is still standing.
There is some renovation going on. This is the spring house.
Ceresville Mill is a neat old building. It had been for sale and now I see that the sign is gone, so I hope it will be renovated.
End of the line on Rt. 26, which merges into Rt. 15 South just past this sign.
A view eastward on MD 194 near Walkersville. I ended up walking up the first climb over that ridge a little further along after Woodsboro.
