The neighborhood is a well established older part of Kilgore within a stone's throw of everything. Grocery stores and shopping areas are a short walk from the house. Stone Road, US Highway 259, Kilgore College and Turkey and Bighead Creek form protective barriers to neighborhood blight. Next to Kilgore College is the 'Boom Town Founders' houses full of beautiful 20's, 30's and 40's Craftman, Tudor and Provencial style homes. Between the Boom Town homes and the Richard's Addition is what I have heard call the Andrew's Addition. It contains a variety of types of homes from hugh southern style mansions to small bugelows. Build dates range from the 20's all the way to the 70's and 80's. Murtle Street has some of the most unique Frame Tudor style homes with arched doors and unique windows. To the east is the a large general use park with little league and soccer fields. The Laird Country Club & Golf Course is located to the south of the park across the street from Horseshoe Drive and Bighead Creek.
The Richard's Addition where the home is located was established around 1952. The homes in this area range from the craftman style like my home, to the new ranch style homes along Turkey Creek. This area is the best kept secret in Kilgore and I believe is the most desirable area to live in downtown Kilgore. The new postoffice, city swimming pool and historic library are withing walking distance. There are two large parks within a couple of blocks. The Gregg County airport is 9 miles down Stone Road (2204). Map was provided by MapQuest
