"Interactive Knowledge Acquisition and Visualization for Automatic Program Understanding"

Successful products for assisting and automating maintenance can be created based on automatic program understanding and programming knowledge. In Phase I we will establish the feasibility of an innovative, efficient method for acquiring programming knowledge: understander-assisted knowledge acquisition (UAKA). Our method uses UNPROG, a unique and practical automatic program understander, and a new visual interface to interactively acquire knowledge from examples. We will build a UAKA prototype and measure its use and value in knowledge acquisition trials. Results will include the prototype, acquired knowledge and evaluation of UAKA's performance and potential.
