FLAGSTAFF - WOODLANDS TRAIL YEAR-ROUND WALK

DATES: January 1 to December 31, 2008
AVA EVENT NUMBER: 2008/Y1339. One event. Note: you may receive IVV event credit twice each year for this walk. You can obtain event credit the first six months and again the last six months of the year. You may receive IVV distance credit every time you do the walk.
DIRECTIONS:
From I-17: Continue north under I-40 on Milton Rd./Hwy 89A to Exit 341; then the same as above.
PROCEDURE: In the Lobby look or ask for the Walk Registration box and follow the directions.
START/FINISH TIMES: You may participate in this walk any day of the year between sunup and sundown. During the warmer summer months it is advisable to carry plenty of water and wear sunglasses and a hat.
DISTANCE: 10 km.

The walk is a rails to trails event. The path is on an abandoned logging railroad grade. It was constructed starting in 1902 by the Arizona Lumber and Timber Company and closed down in 1966.
AWARD: There is no special award ("A" Award) for this event. An interesting assortment of medals and patches from previous events, "B" awards, depicting desert flora and fauna and historic sites is available.
IVV Credit only is $3.00.
You may walk for free if credit or award is not desired, but you must register and complete a start card.
You may do this walk one additional time the same day at no additional charge.
RAILROAD HERITAGE SPECIAL AWARD: This walk qualifies for AVA's RailRoad Heritage Special Award. The route is entirely on the abandoned railroad bed of the Arizona Lumber and Timber Company Railroad.
WALKING THE USA, A - Z SPECIAL AWARD PROGRAM: This walk qualifies for the letter "F" for AVA's new Walking the USA, A - Z Special Award Program.

ELIGIBILITY: This event is open to everyone. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs are allowed but should be on a leash.
WEATHER: Check here for weather conditions in Flagstaff.
SAFETY ALERT: During the winter months the route may be covered with ice and snow. The elevation is 7,000 ft. Plan on additional time to complete the walk.
