DIRECTIONS:

From I-40: Exit on Exit 195B on to Milton Rd./Hwy 89A, to Exit 341 McConnell Dr. Turn left on McConnell Dr. Turn left on Buelah Dr. Turn right on Woodlands Village Blvd. Ramada Suites is third business on the left.

From I-17: Continue north under I-40 on Milton Rd./Hwy 89A to Exit 341; then the same as above.

Logging railroad PROCEDURE: In the Lobby look or ask for the Walk Registration box and follow the directions.

START/FINISH TIMES: You may participate in this walk any day of the year between sunup and sundown. During the warmer summer months it is advisable to carry plenty of water and wear sunglasses and a hat.

DISTANCE: 10 km.

TRAIL DESCRIPTION: This 10 km. walk is on a wood-chipped or gravel walking path through a rural forested area of Flagstaff. It is an out and back walk to Ft. Tuthill County Park, through a pine forest with mountain views on the return trip. The walk is rated 2 (1 is easiest and 5 is the most difficult) due to the elevation; it is suitable for strollers or wheelchairs.

The walk is a rails to trails event. The path is on an abandoned logging railroad grade. It was constructed starting in 1902 by the Arizona Lumber and Timber Company and closed down in 1966.

AWARD: There is no special award ("A" Award) for this event. An interesting assortment of medals and patches from previous events, "B" awards, depicting desert flora and fauna and historic sites is available.

REGISTRATION FEES:

"B" award and IVV credit is $4.00.

IVV Credit only is $3.00.

You may walk for free if credit or award is not desired, but you must register and complete a start card.

You may do this walk one additional time the same day at no additional charge.

RAILROAD HERITAGE SPECIAL AWARD: This walk qualifies for AVA's RailRoad Heritage Special Award. The route is entirely on the abandoned railroad bed of the Arizona Lumber and Timber Company Railroad.

WALKING THE USA, A - Z SPECIAL AWARD PROGRAM: This walk qualifies for the letter "F" for AVA's new Walking the USA, A - Z Special Award Program.

ELIGIBILITY: This event is open to everyone. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs are allowed but should be on a leash.

SAFETY ALERT: During the winter months the route may be covered with ice and snow. The elevation is 7,000 ft. Plan on additional time to complete the walk.
