Idaho Springs Area
Photo Page
Updated to
2003, at Bottom of Page!!
Photos on this page were taken in the approximate vicinity
of Idaho Spring, located on I-70, west of Denver. You can use
Idaho Springs as the starting point, to get to Mt. Evans/Echo
Lake, or go over the hill, on the "Oh My God Highway"
to the gambling meccas of Central City and Blackhawk. If you
are from anywhere flat, and unacustomed to driving on dirt mountain
roads, without guardrails, you might want to skip the "Oh
My God Highway," and take the paved state road from Golden.

The ARGO Gold Mine is located within the city limits of Idaho
Springs. It is a former working gold mine and stamping mill.
Tours are available. Visible from I-70, located north of the
highway, east of the Eisenhower Tunnels.

View of Echo Lake, south of Idaho Springs. (Its on a paved
road!) From this point, it is possible to drive to the summit
of Mt. Evans, one of the peaks of the Rocky Mountains, over 14,200
feet high.

Fasten your seat belt, it's a ride on the "Oh My God
Highway!" We're leaving Idaho Springs behind, and starting
our journey to Central City.

View from one of the lower switchbacks on the "Oh My
God Highway." That is Idaho Springs down in the cleft of
the mountains. The bridge is on I-70.
