I already have several engine detailing projects to do, in addition to everything else to be done on the layout. Yet, once those are completed, there are several other engine projects that I would like to do somewhere in the future:
Delaware & Hudson RS3s: These engines will be painted in the blue/gray lightning stripe scheme, have the large single headlight, the early, narrow fuel tank, different horn configurations, and dynamic brakes. The dynamic brakes on these engines consist of an extra row of louvers on each side of the short hood, and a small rectangular vent on top of the short hood, just forward of the sand hatch (these engines run long hood forward).
Phase III GP39-2: These late GP39-2s have the intake and other sections shifted rearward a few feet, giving them a unique look, similar to the arrangement for the later GP-49s. I will probably model it after a Santa Fe prototype.
BN #3182: Some of the last EMD GP50s delivered to BN came with an expanded cab to accomodate a bigger crew for cabooseless through trains. I will probably kitbash a Kato GP50 with a spare Kato or Atlas cab. Then I would also like to team it up with a standard BN GP50 and a BN fuel tender.
SD38: I would like to model a pair of non-db SD38s, SD38-2s, SD39s, or SD39-2s for transfer and switching duties.
CNW GP35: I would like to model a non-db GP35 with roof mounted air reservoirs and the extra large fuel tank.
SW1500: I would like to model a prototypically correct SW1500.
GP28: These are non-turbocharged versions of the GP35 (kind of like what the GP38 was to the GP40, but nowhere near as popular). Externally, they were the same as the GP35, except it had a pair of NA exhaust stacks instead of the turbo stack, and two 48" fans over a shorter radiator section.
