Originally, one of the operating schemes was based on a freelanced railroad, the Potomac and Ohio, which in turn was loosely based on the real-life Western Maryland.  But the more I planned that particular scenario, the more that I felt that it wasn't quite what I wanted.  And the more that I researched the prototype engines for the Southern and C&O models, the more I wanted to model another set of prototype engines instead of freelancing a second line.  After looking through some Clinchfield information, I made the decision to ditch the freelanced P&O altogether, and model some Clinchfield equipment instead, especially since it has been a favorite of mine since the Model Railroader project back in the late '70s.

And in addition to the mid-'60s and mid-'80s paint schemes, I want a few in the mid-'70s black too.  So, for the mid-'60s operating scheme, I plan on putting together GP7 #912 and GP38#2002, in the light gray paint scheme.  For the mid-'70s scheme, I plan on putting together early GP38 #2006 and GP7 #914.  And for the early-'80s paint scheme, I plan on putting together a late GP38-2 #6004 and GP16 (rebuilt GP7) #4611, in the Family Lines gray with CRR markings.
