I've always found NW-5s to be interesting engines, and it was EMD's first light road switcher (Alco beat them to the market with their RS-1), but few were produced.  Prototype photos can be found at the bottom of this page.  One copy actually found it's way into the hands of Southern Railway, as number 2100.  This unit was originally equipped with a steam generator, but that was eventually removed after several years (as the engine no longer did passenger runs), and the unit ended up operating in the New Orleans area into the '70s.  It then went to Mass. Central, but kept the number 2100.

Down the line, I hope to put together a later model of this engine, but I will need to finish the majority of my other projects before I start on this one.  Meanwhile, I will be collecting information for this project.
