Clinchfield GP38 #6004 is a late GP38-2.  It was delivered with the Family Lines gray scheme in the late '70s, so that's what I plan on painting this unit.  This unit has basic details including a snow plow bell, etc..  But, the most recent GP38-2s produced in N-scale were made by Kato over ten years ago, have wider-than-scale hoods, and don't run as well as current GP-38/40 offerings from Atlas.  So, I plan on kitbashing a few parts from Atlas and Kato items to make a GP38-2.

I want to get a few other engine projects under my belt before I tackle this one, and since Atlas has recently offered GP40-2s, GP-38s, and GP-40s, they might even do a run of GP38-2s by the time I get to this model.  So it will take awhile until I get to this project.

UPDATE (1/3/6): Prototypically correct long hoods are now available for GP38-2s, to be kitbashed with an Atlas engine.  So, I have purchased an Atlas GP40-2 (NS 3013 below), and I have ordered the correct long hood for this particular GP38-2.  It might be awhile before I get it in, but the project should start soon after.
