The image on the left was taken with Kodak "Max" 800, the image on the right was taken with Fugi G800. Both photos were taken at prime focus, and were 15 minute exposures. Neither image is that spectacular because they were glossy prints that I had to photograph with a Casio digital camera to get them into a digital format (see reflections, blurriness). The Casio CCD camera doesn't really see everything the way we do and alters the colors so actually the images above may be a bit misleading. The image on the left looks a lot nicer here than it does in real life. In the print the entire picture is VERY blue and pretty darn grainy. The image on the right actually looks much better in the print, it is MUCH less grainy and brings out small wispy areas that can't even be seen in the Max image. The Fuji G800 film has a much blacker black (the Max tends to be blue), it has much finer resolution (the Max is very grainy), and it is much more responsive in the red regions (Max has very little red response, mostly blue). Astrophotography is too much work to use poorly suited film. There are much better films out there I am sure, but give Fuji's G800 a shot, I think you'll like it. It is available at Wal-Mart and quite a few Supermarkets in my area.
