The sole XB-26D was an early B-26 (40-1380) that was modified to test heated
surface-type deicing equipment. The system actually
worked fairly well, but in July of 1943 the USAAF decided that
since the Marauder was reaching the end of its production run the system wiould not be installed
in production B-26s. Only one example was built.
