Was chartered by Las Vegas casino to pick up passenters at Ontario IAP for a flight to Nevada. It had just taken off from Hollywood-Burbank Airport on Feb 8, 1976 when a prop blade on number 3 engine separated, causing an inbalance which tore out the engine from the wing. The blade also damaged number 2 engine. Aircraft attempted emergency landing at Burbank airport but upon landing the brakes were lost and the landing was aborted and the crew diverted to Van Nuys airport. While enroute, the damaged number 2 engine failed and the crew was forced to crashland the pane on a golf course. Plane plowed through the foundation of a partially-built building and came to rest against a portable bungalow. 3 crew members were killed, and three were able to escape. 45-874 Douglas XC-114 c/n 36327 45-875 Douglas XC-116 c/n 36328 45-876/1048 Douglas C-47B-45-DK Skytrain 876 (c/n 16879/34134) 877 (c/n 16880/34135) 878 (c/n 16881/34137) to 5878 of Corps d'Aviation de l'Armee d'Haiti, leased to Compagnie Haitienme de Transports Aeriens. It is believed that c/n 20082 ex N6898D was used for the conversion and the original aircraft was dumped at Oshkosh. 883 (c/n 16886/34142) bailed from the USAF to Air America December 03, 1964 as 0-50883. Numerous accidents and incidents all repaired prior being returned to the USAF. Next to the Royal Thai Air Force as 45-0883 in November 1972. Recently seen at Bangkok Don Muang on January 13, 1996. Supposedly went to Oshkosh, WI for Basler conversion, but reportedly dropped on the dockside while being unloaded from ship in USA. Replaced by C/n 9290 and remains probably dumped at Oshkosh. There is somedoubt whether this aircraft ever went to Thai AF or became a Basler TP-67 conversion. Thai AF has a TP-67 serial 46153 with a new c/n plate describing it as TP-67 serial number 450883, factory no 34141 but not only is the factory number wrong for 45-0883, but the Thai aircraft is known to be c/n 9290, ex N46949 884 (c/n 16887/34143) to US Atomic Energy Commission as N810Z 885 (c/n 16888/34144) converted to VC-47D 886 (c/n 16889/34146) 887 (c/n 16890/34147) 888 (c/n 16891/34148) 889 (c/n 16892/34149) 890 (c/n 16893/34150) 891 (c/n 16894/34151) to VASP as PP-SPM.
