Janet Wiist
aka
Janet Kendall earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University
of Colorado and worked as a personnel counselor for her alma mater.
Occasionally her cases had unhappy endings although she wished otherwise.
Only in her imagination could she create uplifting stories, although,
during that time, she and her sister began writing a book. They never
finished it. Still, she didn’t pursue a writing career even as the urge to become a storyteller blossomed. Instead, she quit her job, read, played tennis, went skiing with her husband, flirted with fashion designing, and freelance photography, worked in their garden, and sewed historical costumes for her growing doll collection. She even taught herself how to use a table saw and put the siding on their greenhouse. But one day she found that old partial and challenged herself to write and complete a story. For support, she joined Romance Writers of Americaâ , Windy City Romance Writers, a RWAâ chapter, and Beau Monde, a special interest RWAâ chapter and was active in both chapters. At Windy City Romance Writers, she was the Program Chair for three years and chaired many special events such as All For Love. She was Vice President of Beau Monde. After studying the craft and writing daily for a few years, Janet sold her first romance novel, HUNTER OF MY HEART, to Harlequin Historical. The book has been published in a number of languages. A few years ago, she and her supportive husband moved to sunny southern Nevada where they spent a year building a house and are in the midst of working on yet another garden. The move, all the things associated with this change, and caring for elderly parents makes it necessary for her to go on an occasional temporary writing hiatus. However, family responsibilities have not curbed her love of writing. A long historical novel is very alive in her imagination, which she works on even if the writing isn't always on paper. She also joined Cactus Rose RWA®, the Las Vegas chapter of RWA® where she held various positions: Technical Newsletter Editor, Co-Newsletter Editor, Web Mistress, and Special Events Chair. Janet has also written numerous articles for RWA ® chapter newsletters and given writing workshops for Cactus Rose RWA®.When not writing or doing research, Janet spends time with her family, works on ‘new house projects’, gardens with her husband, collects research books, porcelain and fashion dolls, and sews. At day’s end, she relaxes with a good romance novel. |
