THE THEORY OF CREATION

A SCIENTIFIC AND TRANSLATIONAL ANALYSIS OF THE BIBLICAL CREATION STORY

CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

A DAY TO REST

IMPLICIT MEANINGS OF THE SIXTH DAY

Who but the God of the Bible could truly relax on the day that He declared to be holy? The gods created by other civilizations were always vigilant - forever fearful that their status and whatever realm they governed could come under attack at any moment by competing gods. Those gods often deceived each other and plotted against one another, sometimes using humans as pawns in their cunning games of perpetual conquest.

The Hebrew God knew of no such threat. His status as Supreme Being was never in peril by anyone or anything. The God of the Bible has no competition, for He is the Creator of all things. He is the only God capable of letting His guard down to the rest of the universe.
