THE THEORY OF CREATION

A SCIENTIFIC AND TRANSLATIONAL ANALYSIS OF THE BIBLICAL CREATION STORY

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

LAND EMERGES FROM THE SEA

Tectonic plate movement is a relatively recent addition to the annals of science. Alfred Wegener, a German meteorologist, was the first to propose the theory in 1915.7 The process of plate tectonics (and continental drift) was not understood until the middle of the twentieth century. Even today, there are still many questions about the process that remain unanswered. However, there is now enough evidence to support the theory that science has accepted it as fact.

Of all the theories and established facts of science that I am presenting to support the Biblical Creation, this one is the most impressive, and comes closest to comparing with the Biblical text. The Bible clearly states that the continents emerged from the sea. This revelation is neither anticipated nor intuitive - certainly the author would not be expected to know this. And yet, this Biblical assertion correlates closely with the scientific facts.

Today, we possess a more comprehensive understanding of how the continents formed and how the tectonic plates move. This has led us to a greater understanding of the Biblical text. It also allows us to conclude that the Creation Story has once again been verified by the expanding knowledge of science.
